The Transformables – legendary hybrids of sportswear, design and conceptual art held in many museum collections – are a continuation of Ferrari’s Urban Protection range into ever more poetic, ephemeral and experimental forms. First released in the Spring/Summer 2000 collection, the Transformables were made from either a transparent polyurethane fabric (where the garments are inflatable) or otherwise a transparent rubberised rip-proof 2-layer nylon derived from the world of competitive cycling rain shells (which, in order to be able to identify the racer’s number underneath the jacket, had to be transparent).
