MORENO FERRARI – DESIGNER

Moreno Ferrari was born in the seaside town of La Spezia, where his parents ran a high quality, fashionable clothing shop and his aunt worked as a tailor for the Italian Navy based in the port town. After graduating from university in subjects unrelated to fashion he began working as a salesman in his parents’ shop and then at the early Giorgio Armani leather brand Sicons. But, in his own words, he was a rebel, interested in politics, cinema and literature. It was only when he joined Martin Guy, a small brand helmed by Parma native Guido Pellegrini that Moreno began to feel at home and able to explore his creative abilities. after several years of slowly rebuilding the foundations of the brand with collections that were highly respectful of the brand’s archive and history, Moreno broke with many of the traditions of the brand by launching the first revolutionary Urban Protection series.

These were quickly followed by more and more conceptual experiments from the “millenium” series (distinguishable by their reflective “000” branding) to Relax and finally, the Transformables. While similar to other conceptual clothing design projects of those years that attempted to reflect changing attitudes towards the city, such as Final Home and also Vexed Generation, Moreno’s experiments with C.P. Company are uniquely poetic, romantic, literary, free and eclec-tic. Talking about the Urban Protection series of the Transformables he mentions, in the space of a few sentences, influences ranging from French arthouse films to the architecture of nomads to the formative experiences of a generation to gay rights in New York to the atmosphere of working class pubs in England.
